Thiru R. S. Munirathinam, Founder Chairman of R.M.K Group of Institutions is well known for his philanthropic service. He was elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Gummidipoondi constituency in 1977. 1980, and 1984 elections.He envisioned a techno logical revolution and committed himself to establish a group of Institutions, to foster technical and higher education. He is an exceptional educationalist for whom, quality is the way of life. He received the 'Vidya Ratna Award' for his outstanding achievements in the field of education for the rural community.

He founded the R.M.K. Engineering College in 1995 and since then he established the RMK Group of Educational Institutions consisting of eight Institutions. The three Engineering Colleges, which are affiliated to Anna University, have been conferred with Bharatya Vidya Bhavan National Award for an Engineering College with Best Overall Performance by ISTE. Also,R.M.K. Engineering College has secured 84th position in NIRF Ranking among the top 100 Engineering Colleges in India.

Currently, he is the President of Consortium of Self-Financing Professional. Arts and Science Colleges in Tamil Nadu and Chief Patron of All India Federation of Self-Financing Technical Institutions (AIFSFTI).Through these associations, he is working towards improving the quality of engineering education in Tamil Nadu as well as all over India.
